I’m Lisa Austin, a Canadian artist working across drawing, mixed media, experimental surfaces—and now, surface pattern design.
I first learned to draw with pencil, but everything changed when I was taught to “draw what you see, not what you think you see.” That shift in perspective opened something in me—and it’s where my love for art truly began.
Charcoal was my first creative home, and I still return to it when I need grounding. Since then, I’ve explored soft and hard pastels, layered mixed media, and a range of flow-based acrylic techniques. My artwork has often leaned toward realism, but in recent years I’ve begun embracing abstraction and loosening my process.
In the past year, I’ve also been digging into new digital techniques and exploring surface pattern design. These projects allow me to carry the same sense of detail, grounding, and emotion into a different medium—expanding how my work can live in the world.
Of WIP & Wonder is a reflection of that evolution: a quiet space to share finished pieces, works in progress, and the wonder that unfolds along the way.
I don’t claim a fixed style—just a love of the process, and a desire to keep learning through making.
